What’s the difference between Chartered Accountancy and other accountancy qualifications?
Chartered Accountancy is the most respected accountancy qualification world-wide.
No other qualification gives you the same global mobility – all accountancy qualifications are recognised in most countries (as your undergraduate degree would be), but Chartered Accountancy uniquely has the training period, auditing and practice certification also recognised through our Mutual Recognition Agreement. This gives our members unparalleled movement.
Also, Chartered Accountants Ireland's approach to exemptions, education and examinations results in the highest pass rates of any accountancy body in Ireland.
Who is eligible to join the Elevation Programme?
Graduates, Post graduates and IATI graduates with 4 years employment completed who wish to commence their Chartered Accountancy studies outside the established traditional training contract route.
How long will it take?
This will vary from student to student depending on your educational background. There are 3 academic years, but it is possible to complete exams in 1 – 2 years, depending on exemptions. The Recognised Experience requirement is 3 years for Masters in Accounting students, 3 1/2 years for graduates and 4 years for IATI graduates.
There is a maximum limit of 8 years from joining to being admitted to membership.

No, there is no training contract for students under the Elevation Programme. You need to get the same quantum and type of experience as all Chartered Accountancy students, but you are free to choose your employer and job sector, and modify these as your circumstances change.
