Chartered Accountants Ireland syllabus

The Chartered Accountants Ireland syllabus focuses on the key competencies required of a modern, newly qualified Chartered Accountant and, crucially, to provide students with the transferable skills to perform in an ever-changing business environment. The subjects outlined below are complemented by the Online Chartered Accountant Diary of Professional Development competencies which are acquired in the workplace.

There are three academic levels in Chartered Accountancy.

CA Proficiency 1 (CAP1)

  • Finance
  • Management Accounting
  • Financial Accounting
  • Law for Accountants (ROI/NI) (half paper)
  • Taxation (ROI/NI) (half paper)

CA Proficiency 2 (CAP2)

  • Auditing & Assurance
  • Strategic Finance & Management Accounting
  • Financial Reporting
  • Taxation II (ROI/NI)

Students are required to successfully complete a hands-on IT assessment, Accounting in a Computer Environment, prior to commencing the FAE.

Final Admitting Exam (FAE)
The FAE comprises of two main elements: FAE Core and FAE Elective. FAE is examined over three days: FAE Core is examined by integrated case-study papers in the first few days, covering all subject areas. Then the FAE Elective is examined on the third day.

FAE Core must be completed by all students.

For FAE Elective, students must complete one elective.  For 2010/2011, electives will be offered in:

  • Advanced Audit and Assurance
  • Advanced Taxation
  • Advanced Performance Management

Elevation Programme students will be entered automatically in the examination for the combination of subjects you have selected for your course enrolment. The Examination Department will issue to you a letter of admission to the examination approximately 3 weeks before the examination session.
